Frequency: Annual
Sequence: 8th edition
Organizer: Via Expo
Venue: Sofia, Inter Expo Center

The 2015 edition of Save the Planet proved its position as one of the business platforms in Bulgaria and South-East Europe. It presented new technologies covering the whole process of waste management: treatment, transport, collection, disposal, recovery and recycling. The countries from the Region are facing numerous challenges to improve their resource efficiency and to achieve the high European waste management targets. They are streamlining the legislation and introducing new facilities in cities, landfill sites and industry enterprises.

The 2015 Edition at a Glance

Once again Austria was a supporting country due to its remarkable achievements. They were demonstrated at the traditional Austrian Pavilion, the realization of which was supported by ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA Sofia

The exhibition featured a strong international presence - 71% of the participants were from abroad. Direct exhibitors from Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Greece, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands, Slovakia and Switzerland showcased their latest solutions.

A tale of five cities: Using recycling frameworks to analyse inclusive recycling performance

‘Recycling’ is a source of much confusion, particularly when comparing solid waste systems in high-income countries with those in low- and middle-income countries. Few analysts can explain why the performance and structure of recycling appears to be so different in rich countries from poor ones, nor why well-meaning efforts to implement recycling so often fail...

Designing effective partnerships for waste-to-resource initiatives: Lessons learned from developing countries

Cities in developing countries across Asia-Pacific are struggling to effectively manage municipal solid waste (MSW). This is especially the case in secondary cities and small towns, which often face a lack of resources and know-how. Because the waste stream in these cities is usually high in organic content (50–80%) and recyclable materials (10–20%), waste-to-resource initiatives are viable options for sustainable MSW management...
