Kristina Dely, Head of Covenant of Mayors Office

Kristina Dely headed the Covenant of Mayors Office (CoMO) since its establishment in January 2009 until end 2014, and today coordinates CoMO’s capacity building activities in Central and Eastern Europe.

The office − composed of 5 major European networks of local-authorities − co-ordinates the Covenant of Mayors an initiative by the European Commission, whereby over 6000 local authorities have committed to reduce their CO2 emissions by more than 20% by 2020, and under the new commitments, they commit to a min. 40% reduction by 2030.

Formerly, Kristina was in charge of European Affairs of Energy Cities, a European association representing 1000 local authorities from 30 countries.

Kristina holds a Masters degree in economy and environmental management from Budapest University of Economics and the Ecole de Management de Lyon.

There are 26 active Bulgarian signatories of the Covenant of Mayors, committed to reduce at least 20% CO2 emissions on their territories by 2020. Most of them have confirmed their commitments by submitting a Sustainable Energy Action Plan (SEAP); and 2 Signatories, Dobrich and Asenovgrad have already monitored first results of their implementation. This presentation will shed a light on successful municipal practices and benefits of sustainable energy action and regular monitoring of results. Participants will also be informed and invited to the new Covenant launched last year; which sets even more ambitious objectives and includes actions on climate adaptation on the 2030 horizon.
